We don’t now nor will we ever substitute actual intelligence for “Artificial Intelligence”.
To be clear, there is no such thing as a machine that is sentient or intelligent, that can “think” or “learn” in the same sense that we can think or learn. Machines are not alive and have no consciousness, and thus, are not sentient and cannot think; a child instinctively knows this.
Yes, we can build bigger and faster computers that can process enormous amounts of data with breathtaking speed, but that’s all. These machines can update themselves and build bigger and more complex databases with the acquisition of more data, yes, but they can’t think or learn like even a dog or cat can learn. They don’t have the ability to control their destiny, to imagine a new piece of art or music, or adapt to their environment such as we can. This requires consciousness with the ability to weigh parameters and make value judgements and thus, make a decision. Decision-making is not programmable, it is the product of a living, conscious, sentient mind, a rational thinking being who can make value judgements. Machines (computers) follow instructions, they don’t make decisions. They mimic decisions, maybe, by following a complex set of instructions, but they don’t actually “think” and thus, make a decision.
“Artificial Intelligence” is what you get when you combine high speed computing with enormous amounts of data. It mimics intelligence, perhaps, but a machine is not sentient nor alive and thus cannot “think” such as we can.
