Does the Brightening of Betelgeuse Herald The Immanent Occurrence of a New Galactic Supernova?

In this podcast, Astronomy for Change’s Dr. James Daly discusses the latest and unexpected brightening of the iconic right shoulder of Orion, the bright-red supergiant star Betelgeuse. Does it portend an imminent supernova? Dr. Daly explores the possibilities.

Gravity Wave Optical Counterpart Evidenced by Neutron Star Merger

On 4 December, 2017 Dr. James Daly of Astronomy For Change hosted a public event discussing the landmark discovery and optical counterpart observation of the merger of two Neutron Stars.

The discovery was made on 17 August, 2017 using the US-Based LIGO Gravity Wave Telescope Array and the Virgo gravitational wave observatory located near Pisa, Italy.

The Optical Counterpart Observation of this unprecedented discovery was announced by The European Southern Observatory (ESO) on 16 October, 2017.
